Mariana Alegre Escorza, Executive Director, Lima Como Vamos / Occupy your Street,
Mariana Alegre was born in Lima, Peru. She studied Law at the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru and holds a MSc in City Design and Social Science from the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE). While studying her first Masters, in Human Rights, she decided to promote Urban Rights. She has been involved in several research and academic projects focused on sustainable urban mobility, public spaces and urban renewal through social inclusion. Since 2010, Mariana has been the Executive Director of Lima Cómo Vamos, a citizen observatory whose mission is to evaluate quality of life of Lima’s and Callao's neighbors. On December 2014 and with the support of AVINA Foundation, she founded Occupy your Street, an initiative that seeks to develop more and better public spaces through participatory processes and by promoting Citizens Urbanism. Mariana is also a professor at the School of Management of the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru. Mariana researches different urban phenomena, in particular sustainable urban mobility, public spaces, and urban effervescence of citizen movements and urban disobedience. Mariana also contributes opinion columns to Perú 21 and rides her bike and walks around her city.
